Horseback Riding near Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, Arizona

experience

We retrieve horses we assign for today's ride. You will then learn how to groom, brush and comb their mane and tail. You will then be taught how to pick up the horse's hoof and how to pick them out to remove rocks and impediments before your ride. This is all part of the horse coming to understand that you will be in charge today. We will saddle and bridle the horse for you. Then, you will walk the horse, occasionally giving them commands that they must obey at your instruction. Once you display ground control, then we help you mount your horse. Once in the saddle, we’ll adjust your stirrups and hand you the reins and begin explaining to you reining techniques and verbal commands to which our horses respond (on a good day! LOL!). Our horses are not beaten down, trail horses. They have character. They have mostly good days, but just like you, they can have bad days, too, where they're stubborn or wanting to test you. Once you ride around the barn successfully a couple of times, it's time to head out. As your guide, I'll be describing the areas along the way, where wildlife frequently appears, names of mountain peaks around us, botanical observations, and identification of general areas we can see, plus lots of riding tips and reminders along the way to help you have fun and stay as safe as possible.
