We offer customized trips give you an authentic Alaskan experience that you will can't find in town. We take only groups of two people at a time, and when you're here we cater to exactly what you want to do to make your Alaska dreams come true. It’s important to contact and have a conversation so we can setnup your trip. Activities may include: dog mushing, ice fishing, snowshoeing, aurora viewing, primitive skills, fire-making, wild edibles, chopping wood and ice for water and more. We’ll arrange for a cab to pick you up from your Fairbanks lodging and bring you to our trailhead. We’ll teach you the basics of mushing and caring for dogs and then mush the dogs 1-2 hours into our homestead. Arrive at the homestead in time for a home-cooked lunch featuring Alaskan foods. We’ll show you the basics of your cabin- the sunlodge. Depending on conditions and your interests you can then either do a guided snowshoe hike to a scenic overlook or go ice fishing. If you choose snowshoeing, the traditional means of foot travel in the north, we'll begin with a discussion of different shapes and methods. Strap on those snowshoes for a 1-2 hour hike to the top of the Ampitheater bluffs. On a clear day, this is a dramatic overlook of the river and a good place to view the Alaska Range and Denali in the distance. On any day, it’s a fun and moderately challenging hike and a good way to warm up to the day and learn about snowshoeing. If you choose ice fishing we depart on foot for a ½ mile hike to the eddy where we like to ice fish. We’ll chop and drill a hole in the river ice and set a baited hook to catch burbot. We’ll cover the hole with spruce boughs and snow to insulate it for the night. After the afternoon activity we will walk you over to your cabin, the Sunlodge, and give you a brief orientation and then give you a few hours to settle in. Spend the sunset hours taking photos, starting a craft project like carving a spoon, or curling up with a book. Walk back to our cabin for dinner from 7-8:30. After dinner your time is yours- you can play games in your cabin, relax, and weather permitting view the aurora borealis. Other things to note: This is a fairly rugged, outdoor experience and activities are dependent on weather and conditions. More dogsledding is available if you want- we'll take the dogs exploring a different route on the river and up tributaries. At a pretty and sheltered spot, we will stop and build a little fire for a winter picnic lunch. We have many options and you are welcome to try your hand at driving the front sled today if everyone is comfortable. Snowshoeing, ice fishing, and crafts are also available, time permitting this day. Dinner again in our cabin and a lighted luminary walk for dessert. Day 3 We are both instructors and love to teach primitive and wilderness skills. We can do a mini-course in a subject of your interest including: friction fires, animal tracking, spoon carving, shelter building, wild edibles, tool use, trapping, and more. Spend the morning doing one of these activities or one last snowshoe. We'll mush the dogs back to meet your taxi back to town, you should be back to Fairbanks in time for dinner and a showe
